At-Home Wood Floor Cleaner Warning!
WHAT ARE YOU USING TO MOP YOUR HARD WOOD FLOORS AT HOME?
There is a HUGE difference between the results of a floor CLEANER and a floor POLISH. Floor Polishing agents (such as Mop & Glo, Murphy’s, Orange Glo, etc.) clean, shine and protect adding a layer of polish that you may not need or want. A floor cleaner will help remove dirt/grime and restore your floors to a more original status.
MOP & GLO WARNING!
BEWARE: Continuous mopping of wood floors with oily cleaning and polishing agents can cause many layers of build-up. Trust us — we have seen it several times recently in homes around the Valley. Homeowners are unhappy with the CLOUDINESS, UNEVENESS & sometimes even STICKINESS that occurs after use of polishing cleaners.
Just like any over-the-counter floor cleaner, these products must be used correctly and on the proper surface. Merely reading the labels on the bottle does not always give you the whole picture or the best instructions either. For example, what they may not tell you right off the bat about is that their cleaner/wax/polish “should be removed periodically to prevent a build-up of old polish. This can occur if the floor is polished too frequently, and/or if not cleaned thoroughly in-between polishing.”

A mild wood floor CLEANER (with NO POLISH!) or a concoction of 9 parts water + 1 part vinegar should do the trick. But only on occasion, because even the acid from vinegar can cause dullness overtime. Check your floor manufacturer recommendations.
